Diabetic Health Clinic Newsletter – 9/2/2015

Greetings,

Do you want to be healthy? This is a question that everyone thinks about at some stage of their life. It is even more amazing when you start to ask people to define health. There are all sorts of takes on the question from lots of exercise, so fitness to the food that we eat, to making sure you look at packages before purchasing food, to avoiding fast food outlets, to being in luck because you come for a fantastic gene pool and so the list goes on. What does it really mean to be healthy?

The word healthy can be misleading. This is s word that is abused and therefore it has a lot of different interpretations.  Lets look at it differently.  What if we defined health. There is a difference between living a healthy life and having health. We are assuming that everyone wants health. People pursue a healthy lifestyle because they want good health.  The dictionary defines health as “freedom from disease or ailment” and isn’t that what we are all after?

Today chronic diseases or lifestyle diseases are spiraling out of control. Hmmmm, lifestyle diseases? These are diseases that are caused by lifestyle which is hostile and damaging to our body. This is a definition of living in an un-healthy way.

The equation is simple.

Unhealthy Living = Chronic Diseases
Healthy Living = Free From Chronic Diseases

Whilst it is difficult to make that blanket rule for everyone, there is no doubt that health can be improved greatly, even returned to a totally healthy state by living the correct lifestyle.

The question is how on earth do you live this way? What does it mean? Where can your learn about such a lifestyle?
