Diabetic Health Clinic Newsletter – 15/12/2014

Greetings,

It is almost unbelievable that we are in the Christmas period once again. Where does the time go? Just last week when we visited the shopping centre we discovered that it was not possible to park the car easily. Every car park was taken. We literally had to drive around and find someone who was leaving.  Sitting in that car we had some interesting thoughts. Why do we do the things we do? There is this unbelievable rush to have everything completed by the 24th of December, but why?

Walking around the shops we realised what the rush is about. Originally Christmas had nothing to do with spending money, however somehow the commercial world has changed all that. It is estimated that on average, each family in Australia will spend $4000.00 on Christmas. It seems that everything that happens has something to do with the commercial world. Everything revolves around money. Even Christmas has been changed for ever.

As we stood looking at the crowds lining up at supermarket checkout we found it difficult to believe what we saw. Masses of people that are already doing doing their Christmas food shopping. Two weeks out would you believe. Trolleys full of cokes, biscuits, cakes, chips and all sorts of other chemical infused goodies. We were left with one question. Was this how we ate originally?

We now have a situation where people are dying of chronic diseases like never before. Obesity is out of control and today we have a society where diabetes is being renamed from a epidemic to a catastrophe. What is going on? Is it possible that our food has been so heavily modified that it no longer resembles what we would normally eat as a species? The point is, we have come so far that we don’t even think about this fact. We just think it is normal to eat factory made foods.

Is it possible that the food industry is making these foods not to ensure that we stay healthy but so that they can make more money? There is now a lot of evidence that these foods are even addictive. Maybe that is why people can’t stop eating them?

As we step into the the Christmas period our wish for everyone out there is to stay healthy. Imagine a Christmas where you didn’t have to worry about weight gain. It is such a simple thing to do. If all you did is just ate dishes based on whole foods and stayed away from the bottled drinks you would most likely loose weight over the Christmas period. Would’t that be different?  Why not checkout our recipes just to see how amazing as grown, whole food dishes can be. You will find many recipes that will get you started. If you get prepared you can have the healthiest Christmas that you have ever had.
