Testimonials9/9/2015

I came to the program as a 67 year old type 2 diabetic, 30 kg”s overweight and clinically obese.  My doctor had suggested I start injecting insulin.  He was also considering medication for high blood pressure.  I was urinating often, and by 2pm each day having trouble keeping awake.

I noticed the weight loss of a friend who was formerly a type 2 diabetic, and since doing the Diabetic Health Clinic Lifestyle Program, his blood sugars had returned to normal.  That friend sponsored me into the program.

For many years I believed Type 2 Diabetes could not be cured. I had not known my sponsor long (about 2 years) but I knew he was genuine about his outcomes from the program.  Two people who have crossed my path have each had a leg amputated because of diabetes. One of them was exactly ten years younger than me. With a family history of heart disease, as a diabetic, there was not a lot of promise in the future for me.

I came into the program with little knowledge of what would happen apart from the fact that there would be a  choice to be made of juicing or a diet of whole foods over a period of thirty days. I was taking 100mg of the drug Metex to control  my diabetes but it appeared to have little effect on the blood sugar level. When the program commenced I decided to reduce my exposure to sugar. I also replaced my blood glucose measuring device and bought a blood pressure machine to monitor my blood pressure levels. I also bought a set of bathroom scales.

I had the idea that it would be 12 weeks of dieting, and that would be it. Wrong!

This is a lifestyle program. Funnily enough, just two weeks before I joined the program, I’d been to the doctor, done a blood test and had been told that I would have to take medication for blood pressure and he was considering insulin injections for diabetes. I spoke with my daughter who is a registered nurse. I can remember her words” You’ll have to change your lifestyle Dad”, and it sunk in when our instructor (Peter Pratt) reinforced this with his mantra “This is a lifestyle change”. I accept now that I can live longer and better by using the knowledge that has been imparted to me, and the reasons for my poor past health.

My blood glucose level was 11 mmol prior to breakfast at the start of the program. I was determined to do something about it. Twelve weeks later, I am 10kgs lighter, my blood pressure has dropped from 150+ to 135 and my pre breakfast blood glucose level now wavers between 7.3 and 8.1. It would have been lower still if I hadn’t experimented with fads after I had completed the juicing phase of the program. There is a burning desire to get back on track, so I will continue to juice daily with a single whole food meal daily from now on.

I relate my experience of a recent supermarket visit when I picked up a 5 kg bag of potatoes to relate it to my weight loss. Then I realised I could get a real comparison by lifting up two bags (I’ve lost 10 kg’s). It was stunning and brought home to me the burden I had placed on my system by carting that extra ten kg around all the time. I aim to get my weight down another 20 kg, which would bring me back to my ideal weight .  I also want to get my blood glucose level down to normal. My daughter tells me my blood pressure is lower than many 40 year-olds. But, it is the blood glucose level that many diabetics consider impossible to change. As I watch my blood glucose level drop I want to tell all who join this program that this is all about a LIFESTYLE CHANGE. I cannot measure the rewards of the health benefits on all fronts from adopting the attitude that “I MUST CHANGE”.  It has been so rewarding.

Hey, twelve weeks is not a big loss if it brings back the health you enjoyed years back. Twelve weeks have passed, but I feel 15 years younger, and look healthier from energy, shape and condition perspectives.

This is a program that really works. Commit to it.
