And the obesity rates keep going up!

Greetings,

Fat CartoonYet again we are being told that obesity rates just keep going up. This week the Australian Bureau of Statistics released some startling figures. While smoking and as a matter of fact drinking rates are going down, obesity rates just keep on climbing. The situation is  now becoming critical. The question that we keep asking is what is going on?

At the same time the report shows that only 1 in 20 people are eating the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables. That means that 19 out of 20 people are replacing these traditional health enhancing foods with other types of foods. The foods that they should be eating are being replaced with factory assembled foods, which are full of sugar or simple carbohydrates that turn into sugar quickly. No wonder obesity is going through the roof!

Most people are now aware that the main reason why weight is going up is because of the over consumption of refined sugars. These are everywhere and in almost everything. If sugar has not been added then the ingredients themselves are mono-nutrients. Many of these revert to sugar extremely quickly after ingestion and so the obesity rates keep on going up and up and up.

Our question is the following. If people know that they should not be eating it why don’t they just simply stop? In a nutshell people know exactly which foods are bad for them but they have no idea why the keep eating them! Everyone knows that eating cakes, sweets, white breads, actually white anything is not good.  If people stopped eating these types of foods it would mean that most likely the ABS would report massive drops in obesity levels. So why don’t we just simply stop?

We would like to suggest to you that the reason why people cannot stop is because refined sugar is addictive. As a matter of fact we believe that the main reason for obesity is addiction. Look at at this way. If people are addicted they actually can’t stop. What we would like to leave with you is how a sugar addition feels.

About four hours after a meal the stomach starts to complain. It starts of being a gentle reminder that you must eat. If no food is supplied then the feeling very quickly starts to change into a driving force that overruns anything else that you may be doing at the time. At this stage the stomach is physically moving. twisting and turning. You describe this a massive hunger pains. You must eat!

Now let us describe to you what normal hunger feels like. It is just an empty feeling. That’s it! If you don’t eat when you feel the empty feeling it is fine. It is also fine if you eat in 2, 3 or 4 hours. After all there is no addiction so the hunger is not a driving force.

Just in case you think we are totally of the mark have a look at this piece of research. It clearly shows that sugar can be just as addictive as drugs like cocaine. Next week we will have a look at what it takes to overcome this addiction and to experience hunger exactly how it was designed.
