Diabetic Health Clinic Newsletter – 19/05/2014

Greetings,

It is amazing how the information in regards to chronic diseases keeps coming. Not only is it coming form researchers and people who have been passionately working for huge chunks of 90 working lives to figure out what is happening, but now we have the same information coming from other organisations. We have seen plenty of warnings come from the Diabetes associations from around the world, we have seen information coming from the World Health Organisation and now it comes from another important organisation. The Queensland branch of the AMA or the Australian Medical Association during the Queensland state election campaign has voiced some suggestions for the major political parties. Coming from this highly respected organisation in the traditional medicne field we are guessing that their view holds some serious credence. Queensland needs some serious help as it is now called the fat state so any suggestions by the experts a welcome. Here are some of the things that were suggested.
  1. That the government should subsidise fruits and vegetables. From this we can surmise at least a couple of things. A big part of the problem that we have as a society is what we eat. The second is that fruits and vegetables in some way are very beneficial to our health. If the AMA is suggesting such a big move then they must know that if people were to consume more as grown foods the obesity epidemic would be curbed.
  2. They also suggested there be no takeaway shops within 1km of any school. From this suggestion we can conclude that it is processed foods which are the cause of the obesity epidemic and the root of a large range of chronic diseases.

There is now no doubt that the AMA believes that obesity and of course obesity induced chronic diseases like Type 2 Diabetes, which has been recently renamed by Diabetes Queensland from an epidemic situation to a catastrophe is caused by our insatiable appetite for manufactured foods which on the other hand many researchers are now saying are extremely addictive. As you browse through what we have added this week to our web site the picture will start to fall into place.
