Dr Francoise Clavel-Chapelon the study leader has concluded that Cutting down on meat and dairy products in favour of a diet packed with fruit and vegetables could dramatically reduce the risk of diabetes.

The Paris based study ran over a period of 14 years and involved many thousands of men and women.

It was discovered that those with acidic diets were more likely to develop type two diabetes.

Dr Francoise Clavel-Chapelon said

“A diet rich in animal protein may favour net acid intake, while most fruits and vegetables form alkaline precursors that neutralise the acidity.

Contrary to what is generally believed, most fruits such as peaches, apples, pears, bananas and even lemons and oranges actually reduce dietary acid load once the body has processed them.”

This is a very important study that shows yet again that a return to a whole foods plant based diet is the appropriate diet to protect against type 2 diabetes.
