Generic Unistrips Blood Glucose Test StripsFor many years we have been used to purchasing generic medications which have the effect of minimising cost. A few weeks ago a company by the name of UniStrip Technologies made their announcement that there will be new FDA approved blood glucose test strips. There are also other companies exploring the same possibility. The GenStrip which was announced late in 2012 is preparing for distribution after they successfully won some court cases which will allow them to sell their product.

The biggest question about these products will of course be accuracy.  Genstrip Technologies ran into some trouble with the FDA because it was deemed that some of the readings were not accurate. You can see the FDA advise by clicking here. In saying that the fact that the generic brands are coming is welcome. Unsubsidised strips have always been expensive and any reduction in cost will mean that more people will test more which will hopefully lead to a better understanding of how blood sugars relate to different activities and how blood sugars react to the different foods that are consumed.  This has the potential to improve the personal man agent of the disease.  The strips will most likely be available in the US and then they will hopefully find their way aroundthe globe.

What we need is a lower cost and strips that provide accurate results.  As time moves on because this market is so big there is no doubt that this is what the consumer will get.
